XP SP2 RC2 Install failure

Well, Windows Update based installation failed with error 80240034 - that's it, no further information.

I was running XP under a Virtual PC and had restarted the Windows Update install a couple of times so perhaps it had got confused - a complete reboot and restart and Windows update deemed that it had .2MB missing. Having got that, it is now in the process of restarting after a succesful install..., there's a lot of Please wait....s during the restart.

And ???? did it work ??? I have same problem after installing SP2RC2 but there isn't too much on the subject. Anybody knows any fixes for that error ??? I tried almost everything including making sure I have needed services running, no firewall or proxy, changing XP key etc - I could go on forever. Please for the love of God, if anybody knows what the problem is and how to fix it I'll give away my pinky for info that will fix the issue.

So yes, it did work. There is a bunch of info on this in the XP SP2 newsgroups (look on msdn for access). It would seem there are a whole bunch of causes of this error (the code covers a range of causes). In my case a complete reboot cured it but it would seem this is unusual.
