The Paper Said The Poll Had Also Found That Outside Labours Core Support Many Voters Thought The Prime Minister

The paper said the poll had also found that outside Labour's core support, many voters thought the prime minister was arrogant, out of touch and untrustworthy. [via Top News Article | Reuters.co.uk]

The implication is that Labour's core support thinks he's still trustworthy and "a regular kind of guy" - wow.

Semantic music

University launches semantic web interface ... The University of Southampton has launched a new semantic web interface, called mSpace, that it says will make searching for information online, and learning about a subject, much easier.… [via The Register]

Interesting idea, plain doesn't work in IE because they view Firefox javascript as 'standard' but doesn't work in my FireFox either, but that may be because I still only have 0.9.

More wisdom

... If we're the best software development house on Earth, what in earth does it mean that we can't ramp up to write great software to protect our own OS ... Our focus is wildly mismatched with customer needs. ... And in reality, the esoteric features we pile on beyond XP and Office 97 are simply an echo-chamber of geeks' delight. ...  [via Mini-Microsoft]

Go read to fill in the dots. Some good points. There was prediction in 1995/96 that the Internet and Netscape was the end of Microsoft; they'd be dead within a year. I thought it was a completely daft analysis, in part due to the agility of Gates. It is beginning to feel that MS is rusting this time round - somehow one is not quite so sure that they will wake up.

Managing those expectations

Don't call it a comeback!.  .... IE7 is going to be a great product. I've seen a little bit of what they have booked so far and it's an impressive plan. .... [via Microsoft WebBlogs]

In the vein of setting expectations appropriately? This statement is far wilder than the very limited statement from Mr Gates. Here we have someone who has only seen a little bit and they are impressed, perhaps they are easily impressed.

The wisdom of Phil

... If ten thousand very loud and obnoxious web geeks ... [via phil ringnalda dot com: Customers and users]

Phil went quiet for a long time but has been back a while - concerning the IE7 announcement he draws the distinction between the clamour for "standards" and what (real) customers may be wanting.

The future of radio

Future of Radio Is Downloadable.  A new station in Berlin is attempting to redefine music broadcasting for the interconnected internet age. The key will be MP3s and cell phones, not the old-fashioned radio. By Jason Walsh. [via Wired News: Top Stories]

Without broadband <sigh> impossible to tell whether this is the future or not.

Priceless

Campbell: E-mail row 'silly fuss'.  Alastair Campbell dismisses as a "silly fuss" a row over an e-mail containing a four-letter message sent accidently to a BBC reporter. [via BBC News | News Front Page | UK Edition]

Priceless, absolutely priceless. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

The spokesman said: "The person you are referring to is capable of speaking for himself and he no longer works in government."

ROFL.

Beware The Times

Now the Tories are seeking aggravated damages from Times Newspapers ....  and Tom Baldwin. [via BBC NEWS | Politics | Tories to sue newspaper for libel]

and that doesn't even take into account some of the more recent stuff in The Times. Hmmmm Tom Baldwin ..... Alastair Campbell, a heady mix:

"... Tom Baldwin, the Times journalist who is close to Alastair Campbell,...." [via David Kelly affair: a library of links]

To be fair, its probably beware any newspaper these days (well anydays really).

Software deployment with Active Directory

Publish, assign, msi,  advertise, organisational unit, group policy - what a lot of stuff just to get a bit of software installed on a user's machine. My old chum provides a darn fine walk-through.
